ALAN GOW'S season is over but the hard work is just about to begin for the St Mirren forward.

Gow will not play in St Mirren's Scottish Premiership farewell at Hamilton tomorrow after suffering concussion in a late tackle by Motherwell defender Stephen McManus last weekend.

The 32-year-old signed a short-term contract for the Buddies in February after a year out following an ankle injury.

And, with the manager's position at the already-relegated Paisley club in limbo - current incumbent Gary Teale will be interviewed along with invited others - Gow finds himself among over a dozen players who do not know if they will be offered a new deal.

However, after taking so long to get back to fitness, the former Falkirk and Rangers player has no intention of letting it lapse.

Gow said: "I have enjoyed my time here. I was a long time out injured.

"It was good to come back in and it has taken me a few weeks to get myself up to full fitness and sharpness.

"I had a full year out without playing football or even training but I will just keep myself fit over the summer.

"I am not going to have a break, not after getting to the stage where I have got my fitness. There is no point having a rest and trying to get back to fitness.

"I haven't spoken to anyone yet. My first choice would be to stay here. Hopefully that works out. If not I will look at other options."

Relegated St Mirren are Gow's 14th club and he insists his experience makes him more relaxed about his contract situation.

He said: "I am just waiting to see what's happening with the management situation. It is not nice but it is part and parcel of being a footballer.

"I have been in this situation before, it is just one of those things.

"I am older, I have been at a lot of clubs in different situations.

"It is probably different for young boys, they probably haven't experienced it before. But you can't do anything until the management situation is resolved so hopefully we will know soon if he (Teale) is in charge or not."
