Motherwell striker John Sutton believes that the Fir Park side should look to the example of Rangers as a guide to how difficult their Scottish Cup tie against Albion Rovers may be.

Stuart McCall's men take on the League Two side, but Sutton is wary of any slip in focus.

"I do think you only have to look at the way Rangers found it tough last season when they were in that league," said the striker. "Look at the quality they have within their squad yet they found out pretty quickly that teams can make life very difficult for you.

"This will be one of the bigger games of the season for Albion Rovers and if you don't approach it in the right manner then you can find yourself in trouble.

"It is vital that we go into it with a professional outlook and do our best to come out with a strong result. It is all about getting through the tie but it is imperative that we go and try and play our own game and take it as it comes."

The Englishman is well aware that cup progress could go a long way for the Fir Park side.

The striker would love the chance to get a decent run under his belt and make it to the latter stages of the tournament since it adds a significant dimension to the season.

"Every team would love the chance to get far on in the cup and we're no different," he said. "We went out of the League Cup early on and that was a big disappointment this season.

"We are never going to win the league but there is a chance that we could win the Scottish Cup, if we get a wee bit of luck along the way.

"That isn't to say that we aren't taking the game against Albion Rovers seriously because we are. But it would just be great to get the chance to get to the quarter-final or the semi-final because as soon as you get to that stage anything can happen.

"The league can be intense at times as the season goes on.

"The Scottish Cup definitely gives you a break from it and takes a bit of pressure off you.

"We are definitely setting our sights on getting a good run."
