BRYAN PRUNTY admits it was an emotional decision to bring an end to his Dumbarton career.

After four seasons and 33 goals for the Sons, the striker joined League One side Airdrieonians last week after holding talks with Rock boss Ian Murray over his future.

Prunty became a fans' favourite as he helped the club to fifth place in the Championship last season. But he knows he has made the right call for his career after bowing out following Dumbarton's weekend win over Livingston.

Prunty said: "It wasn't an easy decision to leave but I need to be playing regularly and the gaffer told me I was still part of his plans but with no guarantee of being a first pick.

"I understand fully the situation, so when the opportunity came along to consider a switch to Airdrie I thought about it long and hard and in the end decided it was best to move on."

The 30-year-old goal machine added: "I'll take with me some great memories of my time at Dumbarton, not least the relationship I had with the supporters.

"What a great bunch they are. I'll miss every one of them. I was very emotional on Saturday when the news broke that I was leaving. Fans came up to wish me well.

"It was tough to hold it in. I would like to thank everyone who made my time at Dumbarton very special indeed."
