DECLAN McMANUS admits he will have to increase his goal target this term - after hitting the halfway mark after just three games.

The striker netted an extra-time hat-trick for Morton as Jim Duffy's side beat Berwick 5-2 in the Petrofac Training Cup on Tuesday night.

That came just days after a 4-0 league win over Stranraer as McManus marked his Cappielow debut with a brace.

And he is determined to remain on the goal trail before his loan from Aberdeen comes to an end in January.

McManus said: "It is a dream come true to score a hat-trick, especially at home. It is my first hat-trick as a professional.

"I set myself a target of 10 but I am halfway there with three games gone. I will try and get as many as I can.

"I will push it up to 15 just now but I don't want to be too over-confident and think I should get 20 before I go back - that is maybe a bit much.

"I will put it up to 15 and if I get close to that then I'll be delighted.

"I never thought I would have five goals after three games.

"I am delighted, first of all, to be playing every week and to be playing well for the club and fans.

"I am enjoying it. That is the best thing, I am enjoying my football."

It took McManus's late scoring spree to finally book the Ton's place in the third round.

Duffy's side recovered from losing an early goal to take a 2-1 lead but Berwick levelled in the final seconds.

McManus said: "It was hard mentally, we led for so long then they scored the goal after a penalty in the last minute.

"But we done well and kept the head. We capitalised on their tired legs and mistakes.

"The boys did great to set me up for the goals as well."
