MORTON cup hero Cammy O'Neil is determined to build on his dream debut after inspiring Jim Duffy's side to success over Spartans.

The 17-year-old scored the only goal of the game at Cappielow on Saturday as the Ton got their campaign off to a winning start with a Petrofac Training Cup triumph.

O'Neil was a surprise starter as boss Duffy recorded a victory in his first competitive match in charge of the League One title favourites.

And now the Cappielow kid is eager to shine once again for the first team as thoughts turn to the League Cup meeting with Berwick Rangers this weekend.

O'Neil said: "I was surprised to start and actually only found out before the match when the manager said: 'Cammy's playing right-mid.' At that point I was so nervous.

"Luckily my papa and my dad were already here to watch, and to make my debut and score the winning goal was great.

"At the goal, I just made a run into the box and the ball got played through to me. I was faced with the keeper and just thought 'finish it'. I didn't panic and managed to keep my composure.

"I only scored two [for the reserves] last season, so I've been told to start making a lot more forward runs and it's paying off now.

"I felt tired towards the end. It was the longest I'd played since the start of pre-season, and my aim now is to keep playing and scoring."
