LEE KILDAY was delighted with his Cappielow brace as Morton maintained their place at the top of the League One standings with victory over Stenhousemuir.

The defender netted twice in the first half to set Jim Duffy's side on their way to a crucial win, with Stefan McCluskey's late effort clinching a 3-1 home success.

It was Kilday's first two goals for the Ton following his summer switch to Greenock and he was pleased to play his part in a crucial victory.

The former Hamilton stopper said: "At my first one I took a touch inside after faking to go outside then swung my left foot at it. Thankfully it went in off the bar because I don't use my left that often.

"The second goal was a good one to be fair. Declan McManus gave me a good flick and I took my first touch into the box and passed it into the corner.

"I thought it was a good finish as well and it keeps us top of the league.

"We had to get the win with Dunfermline and Forfar both winning. So it was good to keep that wee run going and long may it continue."

The Ton are a point clear of Forfar and three in front of Dunfermline and Stranraer at the summit of the third tier after continuing their fine run of form.

And boss Duffy insists his side were worthy of all three points as they overcame Scott Booth's Warriors.

He said: "Stenny were the better team in the second half and credit to them. But over the 90 minutes and with the chances we made, we deserved to win."
