Sean CriGhton has admitted Morton are still feeling the after-effects of the shock William Hill Scottish Cup defeat to Spartans.

However, he has insisted the best way to bounce back from the defeat is by claiming an important win over Stranraer this weekend.

The Greenock side returned to training this week determined to move on rather than wallow in the defeat.

Inevitably, there was some discussion about the game, but Crighton has insisted that there was not a massive inquest into the result.

"It really was a hard one to take," said the defender. "It was sore. That goes for us as individuals and as a group.

"No-one likes being on the end of an upset like that and it was an awful feeling.

"When we got together on Monday morning we had a few things to say, but there wasn't a massive thing made about it.

"There is nothing that can be done now. For 60 minutes we dominated the game and should have scored a second to kill it - but we didn't and we know what happened.

"That's football. It happens. It wasn't pleasant, but the best way for us to get it out of our system is to look ahead.

"I actually think that having a game as big as the one this weekend is in our favour, because we know we have to give it our full concentration"

The game is a proverbial six-pointer, with League One leaders Morton playing fourth-placed Stranraer, who are just three points adrift.

Crighton has insisted there will be no hangover as Jim Duffy's side look for the perfect pick-me-up from last weekend.

He said: "The league was always going to be our priority. We have had one shocking result, but I don't think you can allow that to be the focal point of the season so far.

"We have done really well to get into a good position and be relatively consistent in what is a very demanding league.

"It was always going to be our big aim to do as well as we can in the league and Saturday is a massive game for us because it could be the difference between opening up a wee gap between ourselves and Stranraer or letting them peg us back.

"I don't think we can afford to go into the game still thinking of Spartans.

"We were on the wrong end of a shock result, which isn't the nicest thing in the world to experience, but I think now it is all about what our response is going to be.

"We can go over our mistakes as often as we like, but we can't undo the result.

"But we can definitely influence the rest of the season and that is where we have to be putting all our energies."
