DANNY LENNON hopes the St Mirren support can inspire his side to success once again when they face Partick Thistle on Friday night.

The Buddies head into the clash with Alan Archibald's side on the back of wins over Motherwell and Hibernian that have kickstarted their bid to beat the drop.

Victory over the Jags would take them seven points clear ahead of 11th-placed Ross County prior to their fixture against Kilmarnock on Saturday afternoon.

The stage is set for a thriller under the Firhill floodlights on Friday and Lennon is determined to give the Paisley faithful something to shout about once again.

He said: "Our fans have been terrific for us and, from my playing days at Thistle, I know the atmosphere the fans there can generate.

"It has got the makings of a fantastic occasion. I have always enjoyed evening games and Friday could be a really good night.

"When we got the last- minute winner against Motherwell a couple of weeks ago, the whole place erupted, the stadium was electric and there was a great atmosphere.

"It is important that we continue to give the fans something and we did that on Saturday.

"Even when Jim Goodwin got sent off, it never felt as though we were playing with 10 men with the fantastic backing we got.

"We have got to keep bringing the key elements that will allow the fans to create that positive atmosphere for us and, if we do, we will give ourselves a great chance of once again picking up some points."

With just four games to go this term, St Mirren have given themselves a fighting chance of avoiding the SPFL Premiership play-off place after taking six points from their last two outings.

There is still little to choose between the five teams battling it out at the foot of the top flight, with Hibernian and Kilmarnock also deep in the mire.

And the Buddies boss reckons it is too close to call at the moment as the pressure continues to build in the bottom six.

Lennon said: "They are all important games between now and the end of the season and it is important that we continue to build momentum and bring the key elements from the last few games into every match we play in the next few weeks.

"It is very, very tight, but it is exciting and I think it will go right down to the wire."

HE ADDED: "Everyone now is cutting each others throats and maybe, within this weekend and the next game, we will see one or two teams perhaps pull away.

"But there will be two or three teams down there and I think there are a few twists and turns to come yet."

With just three points between County and out-of-sorts Hibs in the standings, it could take until the final minutes of the campaign for the relegation battle to be sorted out.

Lennon's side have found their form at just the right time this term and the Paisley gaffer is determined to finish with a flourish.

He said: "There has been a lot written in the last week or two and, going into the Hibs game, there was a lot of talk about their recent form.

"But when you look over the course of the season and the five teams that are battling it out to avoid the play-off position, everybody's form has been roughly the same and that is why there are so few points separating the five teams.

"That has come about through inconsistency. Coming into the split, we were looking to pick up some momentum and find that consistency that has eluded us for big parts of the season. This is the ideal time to find that momentum."
