STUART McCALL has vowed that Motherwell won't take basement boys Albion Rovers lightly ahead of Saturday's Lanarkshire derby Scottish Cup fourth round tie at Hamilton.

Despite the three-tier gap between the sides, the fact that the tie will be played on the artificial surface at New Douglas Park has made the Well gaffer extra wary of the prospect of a cup shock at the hands of humble Rovers.

With the extra spice of the derby factor thrown into the mix, McCall is expecting a full-blooded affair as his side bid to emulate their Scottish Cup final run of 2010/11.

The Motherwell manager said: "We will give Albion Rovers every respect. We know they may be in League Two but we know that with this being a Lanarkshire derby and a Scottish Cup tie they will be very highly motivated.

"This will be their cup final When you play a lower league team in any cup tie is that you match their commitment and work-rate because you know you will get that in spades.

"So Saturday will be about making sure we do a professional job on Rovers and we will not be taking them lightly in any shape or fashion.

"The one thing you know about the Scottish Cup is that there are always shocks in every round and we are determined to make sure that Motherwell is not the name involved in that shock on Saturday night."

McCall admitted that although he would prefer to play on grass he is still expecting a professional job from his men on the artificial surface

The Fir Park gaffer said: "The fact that the tie is on an artificial surface is maybe not ideal. But we will just have to deal with it.

"The bottom line is that it will be the same for both sides but obviously the players will have to make adjustments in terms of their footwear and you definitely have a different bounce to deal with.

"But it will be about doing the basics correctly, keeping possession, making sure that we play our game and trying to impose it on Rovers.

"Especially early on we are going to have to be very concentrated and make sure that we do not give them anything to get their tails up with.

"But the Scottish Cup is a tournament that I have always enjoyed and we made the final here in my first season, so it would be great to go another good cup run this time around."

Motherwell will go into the tie on the back of a solid 2-0 away day success in the Premiership against Kilmarnock and McCall admits it has given his men the ideal boost for their Scottish Cup campaign.

He said: "There was a lot to be pleased about. Obviously keeping a clean sheet away from home is very pleasing and especially after conceding four at home against Dundee United.

"But I also felt that we created a few chances and on another day John Sutton could have had a hat-trick.

"Killie had won their last two home games at Rugby Park, so regardless of where they are in the league it was going to be tough.

"I thought we played some good stuff but I probably take most pleasure from our defensive display. Gunnar Nielsen had two good saves to make but apart from that we defended very resolutely.

"So it was a satisfying afternoon's work and one that has given us a decent platform into the Albion Rovers derby in the Scottish Cup."
