STUART McCALL fears Motherwell's hopes of a strong showing against Celtic tomorrow are being undermined by injury.

Although Iain Vigurs and Lionel Ainsworth will be available again after injury kept them out of the disastrous William Hill Scottish Cup defeat by Albion Rovers last weekend and Simon Ramsden has returned to training today, McCall has been rocked by fresh crock concerns.

Zaine Francis-Angol has a groin injury while Bob McHugh suffered a knock in the Rovers reverse and could be sidelined for several weeks.

Promising young striker Lee Erwin requires a knee operation and goalkeeper Lee Hollis is still not ready for a return to the fray.

The Fir Park gaffer said: "Unfortunately, although we have had some good news on the injury front, we have also had some fresh problems that have really tended to overshadow that and take us back to square one.

"The good news is that both Iain Vigurs and Lionel Ainsworth are back in contention for places.

"Simon Ramsden was back in training today although the Celtic game is maybe a bit too soon for him.

"Unfortunately, Zaine Francis-Angol will have to undergo a scan on an injury and Bob McHugh took a knock against Rovers and will be out for two or three weeks.

"The most disappointing news, though, is that Lee Erwin suffered a knee ligament injury in a Scottish Youth Cup tie.

"He will require surgery just when we had hoped he was ready to make a sustained impact at first-team level.

"So really it is a case of mixed blessings and all a bit frustrating when we had hoped for better news."

The Motherwell manager is under no illusions as to how tough it will be to return to winning ways against an in-form Celtic team.

McCall said: "Celtic were obviously exceptional against Hearts in the Scottish Cup, so we know the level of performance that will be required from us."
