ALBION ROVERS boss Darren Young has told his part-time players they have the potential to be the next Andrew Robertson.

Robertson sealed a dream £2million move to Barclays Premier League club Hull City from Dundee United this week.

But just over a year ago the 20-year-old was playing in the bottom tier of Scottish football with amateur club Queen's Park.

Young, whose side get their season underway with a derby match against Airdrie in the Petrofac Training Cup this afternoon, reckons that shows his charges what they can achieve.

He said: "We have managed to add four or five players to our squad over the summer. Hopefully, they will help us to kick on and enjoy a good season.

"But these lads also have an opportunity to do well for themselves as well if they are willing to work hard and commit themselves to their football.

"They can definitely use the chance they have here and go on to have good careers. Look at what Andrew Robertson has done.

"A year ago he was playing for Queen's Park. Now he is a Scotland internationalist and is going to be playing in the English top flight. It shows what can be done."

Young added: "We have been building up to this game for the last four or five weeks and we are all really looking forward to it. I will be playing as long as my legs are up to it and Sandy (assistant manager Clark) will be directing things from the sidelines."

Barry Ferguson will take charge of his first competitive match as Clyde manager today when the Broadwood club take on SPFL Championship club Ayr United at home.

Elsewhere, Jim Duffy will also oversee his first game as Morton gaffer when the Cappielow club play non-league Spartans at home in the first round of the competition.
