DARREN YOUNG hailed his Albion stars as they breathed fresh life into their League Two title bid with victory over Arbroath on Saturday.

Rovers are now just three points off the fourth-tier pace after they inflicted a second consecutive defeat on Allan Moore's side, who lost against Queen's Park last weekend.

Arbroath still top the table but it was a huge triumph for Young's men as goals from Marc McKenzie and John Gemmell made it 2-1.

Cliftonhill boss Young said: "That was a great win for the team. We could have fallen nine behind if we had lost.

"We have a real belief in ourselves and that is what has helped us go seven without defeat.

"Our defence must take a lot of the credit for that. They have been solid all season.

"We have Queen's Park next week and it is another toughie, so I will be looking for more of the same from the team."

Albion remain just a point behind QP ahead of their crunch clash this weekend after Gus MacPherson's side continued their impressive run with a 4-1 win at Elgin.

Paul Woods, Shaun Rooney, Darren Miller and John Carter were all on target at Borough Briggs and the Spiders gaffer was delighted.

He said: "We got the job done and were professional in how we went about it. We got the goals at the right time.

"We didn't start the game very well … It could have been different but we have enough belief in the group in our own ability to see the game through."

Clyde dropped out of the top four after a 1-0 home loss to East Stirlingshire. Defender Brian McQueen netted a bizarre own goal, heading past keeper Alan Martin after seven minutes.
