Home show a must for Kev

Kevin McKinlay has warned his former Partick Thistle team-mates they will face a Morton side hungry for revenge at Cappielow tomorrow.

The Jags have won all three SFL meetings, scoring eight goals and conceding none.

But, buoyed by their hard-fought 2-1 midweek victory over relegation-haunted Airdrie United, McKinlay says his pals are ready to end Thistle’s hopes of a whitewash.

He said: “The win over Airdrie was a huge one and has given everyone here a real boost. We are deter-mined to build on that and stop Thistle doing the double over us at Cappielow.

“Wednesday’s game was like a cup-tie and we need to approach the Thistle match in similar fashion.

“Partick have so many good players such as Liam Buchanan and Simon Donnelly, so we must respect that quality. We know our home record has not been good and, given we have lost seven and won just three at Cappielow, we have got to do something about that.

“Ayr have a tough fixture with Queen of the South at Somerset Park today, however, and we need three points to make sure we make the most of it if they stumble.”

McKinlay started at left-back against the Diamonds, while Ton skipper for the night, Jim McAlister, was given a roving role.

The former Jag is delighted to be back in regular action.

McKinlay said: “This will be just my third game since I joined Morton in January and I am still getting my match sharpness back, but it is great to be playing regularly.”

Wee win will get us going

Clyde captain Willie Kinniburgh believes the Bully Wee are just one win away from saving their season.

He said: “We have been playing well without getting a break in front of goal and it was more of the same against Dumbarton on Tuesday. But we know we have the quality to get off the foot of the Second Division table and if we could get that first win it would give us the platform to doing that.

“Brechin are going for promotion and will be tough, but we know what we need to do. And, if we can get the first goal at Glebe Park, we can hopefully take all three points.”

Time for Sons to shine

Dumbarton manager Jim Chapman has urged his Sons side to find some consistency ahead of their trip to Second Division title chasers Cowdenbeath.

Chappie, who will welcome Ryan McStay back from suspension, said: “We are still on the fringes of the promotion play-off positions and we need some consistency. A win at Cowdenbeath would be a massive boost but, if we want that, we will have to match them physically.”

Gardner wants Gala day

Queen’s Park boss Gardner Speirs has warned his Spiders it will take a team effort to beat Annan at Galabank tomorrow.

QP have won three of their last four games to move level with fourth-placed Berwick and are four points ahead of Annan going into tomorrow’s clash.

Speirs said: “We could advance our own hopes and damage Annan’s. We have been doing things well as a team in most areas and that is what will be required tomorrow.

“In games like this you need to take your chances when you create them and defend well as a unit.”
