ALAN ARCHIBALD is targeting at least three more additions to his Partick Thistle squad this summer.

The Jags boss has enjoyed a productive few weeks in the transfer window as he has bolstered his Firhill ranks ahead of the new SPFL Premiership season.

Thistle begin their campaign against Dundee United next Friday night – and Archibald admits he has not finished his shopping spree just yet.

He said: "We are still on the lookout, we are always looking to bring in new players. We want good players in.

"I said at the start of the season it would be four or five and we have added Jordan McMillan, Gall (Paul Gallacher), Bairdy (John Baird) and Mark Kerr and I think we still need three at least.

"We are just looking for good players. If there are quality players available, we will look at them and try to bring them in.

"We added Gary Fraser, who is a young lad with a lot to offer, during the week and big Henoc Mukendi has come in from Liverpool as well.

"We have lost Mark McGuigan to Albion Rovers on loan and Mukendi replaces him like for like."

While there have been plenty of players heading in to Firhill, there has been another exit this summer after striker McGuigan joined Albion on loan for a second time.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a terrific spell with the Coatbridge side last season, but Archibald admits his chances were going to be limited in the coming months.

He said: "The worst thing that probably happened to Mark was us getting promoted, to be honest.

"He wasn't tried and tested at First Division level, so he now has a chance to go and play games.

"I said to him that he wasn't going to play here every week, he might have been a bit-part player.

"It was up to him whether he wanted to try to be an impact player here or go out and play games.

"He was delighted to come back from his emergency loan at Rovers last season but, at the same time, I think he regretted it because he hit a bit of form for Albion and managers were talking about how well he was doing.

"I think it would have been better if he had stayed at Rovers and he would probably have been more ready to join us this year."

With the big kick-off just days away, Thistle will round off their summer schedule with a Firhill friendly against AEL Limassol tomorrow afternoon.

And Archibald hopes there could be a timely reappearance for midfield star Stuart Bannigan as he recovers from injury.

The Jags boss said: "Things have been going fine. The boys are just raring to go now and want to get started. We have had a few games, probably enough games now, and everyone has had enough minutes. The boys are looking fit and are ready for a competitive match.

"You are just crossing your fingers and hoping that everyone comes through Saturday's game okay.

"Hopefully Stuart will play some part on Saturday."
