Inverness manager Terry Butcher admitted it felt great to move second after leapfrogging Hibs with a 3-0 home win over the capital club.

Ross Draper opened the scoring for Caley Thistle by heading home Graeme Shinnie's 13th-minute free-kick before Richie Foran and SPL player of the month Billy McKay sealed another superb success.

Butcher also won a monthly prize after closing November with victories at Celtic Park and Aberdeen and the Inverness manager was delighted to see his side carry on their form.

He said: "It's another great win, a clean sheet and three goals – great for the goal difference."

"It wasn't the best performance this season but it was very effective and very strong.

"It took time to get the second goal but when we did we were comfortable. They were good goals, spread through the team.

"We said at half-time: 'do the basics right'.

"Our ball retention in the second half got a lot better but the second goal wouldn't come. It finally did and the third was icing on the cake.

"We are second in the league and it's a heck of a feeling."

He added: "That's three losses in 21 games and we have scored in every game.

"It's all down to the players, they work hard when they cross that white line. We are just enjoying the ride."

Hibs boss Pat Fenlon struggled to explain his side's poor effort which came six days after their derby win over Hearts.

He said: "It was a poor performance all round.

"We defended poorly."
