Danny Grainger has agreed a one-year deal with St Mirren with the option of a further year.

The left-back was without a club after his contract with Hearts expired at the end of last season.

Saints boss Danny Lennon said: "We lost a very good left-back at the end of last season when Paul Dummett left to fight for a starting place at Newcastle United. Danny is a top quality left-back to replace him. I have known Danny since he was a young lad at Gretna and he has gone on to prove himself to be a stand-out player in the SPL.

"He has the ability, experience and character we are looking for to help take the club forward and we are delighted to have him on board."

Meanwhile, Saints' youth development assistant Frazer Robertson is confident the future is bright for the Buddies as he prepares to take up a new post in Ghana.

After a 16-year Saints coaching career, Robertson is set to take up a position at the 'Right to Dream' academy in Africa.

He has spent the last four seasons working closely with the Saints' head of youth development David Longwell and reckons the long-term future of the club is in fine shape.

Robertson said: "On the youth development front the biggest thing is having our own facility at Ralston. It is quite an accomplishment for St Mirren when you think that Celtic, Rangers and Hibs are about the only other clubs with a similar facility."
