JUBILANT St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright hailed his players after they completed a remarkable 2-1 aggregate win over Rosenborg to send them spinning out of the Europa League.

The Perth men stunned the 22-time Norwegian champions with Frazer Wright's winner in Trondheim then completed the job at McDiarmid Park as Stevie May netted a precious equaliser for a 1-1 draw to secure safe passage to the third qualifying round.

The Perth gaffer said: "What a tremendous night. We dared to believe and we followed it through. It was a game in which we deserved to get the result we needed.

"We lost a goal but we responded well. They started with a quicker tempo, but once we sorted that out, we showed courage.

"It was a bit helter skelter at the end, but they had run out of ideas and were just humping balls into the box.

"It was maybe fate that Stevie May should start and score as he's done well in the lower leagues and proved a point."

Goal hero May beamed: "I couldn't remember much about my goal. I stuck a leg round the corner and I just managed to get it over the goalkeeper.

"It is a feeling I won't forget in a hurry.

"Over the last two seasons, I have gone on loan, but my goal has always been to make it into the team here."

Saints now progress to face Minsk, with the first at the Dinamo Stadium next Thursday.
