STUART McCALL has warned Motherwell fans to expect more cuts next season.

Despite leading the Steelmen back into Europe and to within a point of clinching second spot in the SPL, the Fir Park boss reckons even more savings will have to made.

Motherwell have a host of first-team regulars – including Michael Higdon, Darren Randolph, Tom Hateley, Nicky Law, Chris Humphrey and James McFadden – out of contract in the summer.

McCall predicts some of the men who have performed so well for him this season will end up with clubs in the English Championship.

He said: "Next season will be cuts again. But I think that is across the board in the SPL. So, no, we will not be having any extra money, which is the sad part of it.

"And we have seven or eight players out of contract again, which is going to be difficult because there is no doubt we have players who will go down and play in the Championship next season.

"But we would like to think we can keep a hold of a few of them."

McFadden, who signed a short-term contract in February and has been linked with a move to Celtic, is one man McCall will work hard to persuade to stay at Fir Park.

He told Talksport: "If James has any realistic ambitions of playing for Scotland, he has got to go to a club where he will be playing week in, week out – ala Motherwell.

"We know what Faddy is capable of. He needs to play on a regular basis.

"He had a little cameo at Everton and a little cameo at Sunderland. But getting 10 or 15 minutes here and there is not going to be good enough for him.

"He needs to go to a club where he is going to be playing regularly.

"Whether that would be Celtic? I believe he is a Celtic supporter. But he is enjoying his time here, so we will just enjoy him while we have got him.

"It [signing him on a new deal] could be a possibility. I don't think there would be any doubt in that."
