ST MIRREN goalkeeping legend Campbell Money has revealed his shock that Buddies No.1 Craig Samson could be on his way out of Paisley.

As exclusively revealed in yesterday's SportTimes, the shot- stopper has failed to agree terms on a new deal tabled by Buddies boss Danny Lennon.

With Saints making it clear that the offer was of a take-it-or-leave-it nature, it now looks certain that Samson's future lies elsewhere.

Money said: "It is surprising that Craig has felt unable to accept the new deal.

"He has done really well this season and matured into a first-rate keeper and I think he merits a deal that reflects his status as a first-choice pick and also a Scotland squad goalkeeper.

"Craig would have come on a No.2's deal, given he was second choice to Paul Gallacher when he arrived, but he has now made the position his own. I would say he would be justified in expecting his new terms to reflect that."

Money added: "But these things have a habit of working themselves out and I really do hope that will be the case with Craig and St Mirren.

"He is a fine young keeper and they do not grow on trees.

"But none of that will distract Craig from producing his best for St Mirren over the last four games.

"They have a huge game with Hibs on Saturday, that could settle the relegation issue at last, I'd expect him to be at his best."
