STUART McCALL has made consistency the name of the game for his Motherwell side.

The Steelmen put a four-game losing streak to bed on Saturday with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over St Johnstone at Perth.

Now McCall's men face a Dundee double header with United travelling to Fir Park on Wednesday and Dundee the visitors on Saturday and McCall wants his side to use home comforts to regain the type of consistency they showed in racking up their best-ever first quarter in the SPL.

He said: "What I need from the lads now is consistency. It was vital that we got the monkey off our back up at St Johnstone not only in getting the win but also in scoring the goals that went with it.

"Now we have done that we must use the confidence that we have taken from that win to re-build our consistency levels.

"In that respect the prospect of two home games on the bounce is a fantastic opportunity to kick-on and reclaim the territory we have lost over the last couple of weeks.

"We know that is going to be tough as United will have been buoyed by their 2-2 draw with Celtic and Dundee taken a real lift from their victory over Hearts, but these are our home games and it is vital that we use them to make Fir Park a feared venue again."

The Well boss was delighted with the performance of two-goal Jamie Murphy on Saturday whose direct running tormented a shell-shocked Perth rearguard who plainly had not recovered from their five goal mauling at the hands of Celtic in the Communities Cup the previous midweek.

McCall said: "I thought Jamie was superb for us and right from the start of the game he showed a willingness to run at defenders and be really positive that allowed others around him like Henrik Ojamaa to benefit.

"But there were a number of great performances and for me Keith Lasley delivered a real skipper's display. He never wasted a ball and was on hand all the time for his team-mates to find and when you are away from home you need that.

"A lot of people ahead of the St Johnstone game would have been taking that one as a home banker so I guess we will have bust a few coupons with the victory."

A three-point haul over United would take Well third but McCall is under no illusions as to how tough the win will be to come by.

He said: "There is very little between any of the sides in the SPL but when they fire United are a very dangerous team. So we will have to be at our most concentrated on Wednesday night if we want the win."
