PAUL Dummett has urged St Mirren not to abandon their free-flowing football philosophy in their SPL clash with Kilmarnock tonight.

Dummett helped the Buddies to draw 1-1 with Celtic in a thrilling encounter in Paisley at the weekend.

The draw came a fortnight after they had lifted the Scottish Communities Cup with a 3-1 triumph over Hearts.

The 21-year-old, currently on loan from Newcastle United, reckons those results show they can succeed playing attractively.

St Mirren manager Danny Lennon has doggedly refused to resort to long-ball tactics during his time in charge – with wildly contrasting fortunes.

But his Welsh starlet, who is set to line up at left-back against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park this evening, believes it is now working wonders.

He said: "Anyone who watched our game with Celtic will have seen that we try to pass the ball. That is the philosophy we have at St Mirren.

"I think we deserve credit for that given that they are the top team in Scotland and they have reached the last 16 of the Champions League.

"The manager wants us to play like that and I think there is definitely now a belief among the players that it works.

"The minute you stop believing you can win playing good football is when you revert to route one football. We work hard as a team. When we get the ball we try to play the right way.

Dummett, who is set to return to St James's Park in the summer, was watched by Newcastle assistant John Carver and first-team coach Steve Stone at the weekend.

The United duo will have been impressed with the defender, who has improved greatly during his time at the Saints.

Meanwhile, Kilmarnock have completed the signing of Nigeria international midfielder Reuben Gabriel.

A club statement read: "We are pleased to confirm the signing of 22-year-old Nigerian midfielder Reuben Gabriel has now been completed.

"Reuben started his career with Kaduna United before moving on to Enyimba, but his most successful spell was not until he joined his most recent club, Kano Pillars.

"There, Reuben was part of the team that won the Nigerian Premier League title and cemented his place in the national squad where he won nine caps and was part of the squad that won the 2013 African Cup of Nations."
