CELTIC look like losing out on Johnny Russell after the player agreed personal terms with Derby County, who have struck a £750,000 deal for the striker with Dundee United.

The 23-year-old is now set to undergo a medical at the English Championship club on Monday.

Tannadice gaffer Jackie McNamara said: "Derby are close to reaching our valuation and we have accepted it.

"It is now down to Johnny and his agent whether it happens or not and they can come to a deal."

After earlier bids of £625,000 and £700,000 were rejected for the striker, whose Tannadice contract expires next year, United chairman Stephen Thompson finally accepted the third improved offer.

While Russell, who scored 20 goals for United in season 2012-13, had been trailed by the Hoops, no formal bid was made by the Parkhead club.

But United knocked back offers from Italian outfit Catania, while English Championship sides Huddersfield Town and Sheffield United also made unsuccessful moves for the player, in August and January, respectively.

Now United supremo Thompson will step up his bid to bring former United favourite David Goodwillie back to Tannadice on loan from Blackburn Rovers.

Goodwillie joined Blackburn Rovers for an initial £2million in 2011 but has struggled to make himself a first-team regular at Ewood Park.

Meanwhile, St Johnstone boss Steve Lomas has been given permission to speak to Millwall regarding their managerial vacancy.

Saints have confirmed the former Manchester City and Northern Ireland midfielder is free to talk to the Championship club.

Chairman Steve Brown said: "I have been contacted by Millwall and following discussions have given them consent to speak to Steve Lomas. Steve is an ambitious and talented manager and I'm disappointed but not surprised that his progress has been monitored by other clubs.

"As with our previous two managers, we will not stand in the way of Steve if he agrees to join Millwall."

The Lions have been searching for a new boss after Kenny Jackett left after five-and-a-half years in charge before taking over at Wolves.
