Complacency. Something Walter Smith was desperate to avoid, but the very thing that crept in to Rangers season yesterday and has now manifested into problems the manager could have done without.

A 3-3 draw with Dundee United at home will not exactly see any panic buttons being pressed, but it was a damaging result nevertheless, at a time when the Ibrox side should be making life easier for themselves.

They face fixture congestion now, and a third Scottish Cup replay of the season after being taken to two matches against Hamilton and St Mirren. They are also likely to feel the wrath of the manager and his backroom team who, having been in the game for many years, will be well aware of the dangers of thinking things are over, too soon.

It happened over spells of the game against United, who came from 3-1 down to earn a replay; it was hard to argue they didn’t deserve that second chance at the tie.
