When you look at the aspects contributing to Celtic’s undoing this season, you cannot ignore the defensive frailties that have cost them so dearly.

Ironically, against Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday, that was the one area where Celtic looked impressive, despite the inexperience of the centre-halves who started the game.

Yet it is undeniable that the vulnerability of The Hoops’ rearguard has undermined their quest for the title this term. It has cost them points in games they ought to have won.

There have also been problems at the other end of the pitch, with a lack of conviction in front of goal in games when chances have been plentiful.
