- Tommy Burns was appointed caretaker manager of Kilmarnock following the resignation of Jim Fleeting. He took charge of his first game against Clydebank in a First Division match on April 7, 1992. Killie won the game 1-0 thanks to a goal by Ally Mitchell before a crowd of 2,094. Burns was given the job permanently at the end of the season.

- The match you are thinking of took place on Tuesday, May 17, 1977, at Hampden Park in front of over 28,000 fans. The game was in aid of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Appeal.
The Glasgow Select team were managed by Willie Ormond and he steered them to a 2-1 victory over the English.
Scorers for the Scots were Jardine (pen) and Dalglish, with Tueart giving England an early lead.

- In the first game at St James’s Park, Second Division Forest took a surprise 3-1 lead. This provoked a major pitch invasion by Newcastle fans. The referee took the players off for a spell and when they returned Newcastle turned the tie around to win 4-3. However, the Football Association ordered the game to be replayed at a neutral venue. The game was played at Everton’s Goodison Park and ended in a goal-less draw . A second replay at the same venue saw Newcastle win 1-0.

- On Saturday, September 10, 1988, Celtic played Orlando Lions at Parkhead. Lions’ forward Lamb scored with a chipped shot over the head of Hoops keeper Alan Rough. The final score was 4-2 to Celtic with a double for Mark McGhee, adding to earlier goals from Archdeacon (pen) and Burns. Substitute Okpudu scored the Lions’ other goal.
