The Greenock side got their first league win of the season when they beat Dumbarton 3-0 in their last outing and McLaughlin is optimistic that result can enable them to kick on.
"Some of our football has been good, but it is the old story that you cannot miss good chances and then give away soft goals," he said.
"Too often already this season we have come out of a game feeling as though we have done enough to win it, only to be looking at just a point. It's vital we try and build on the result we got against Dumbarton.
"We've had a decent wee break and we're ready to get going, but we know that Cowdenbeath will make it hard for us.
"It's important we go there with the right attitude and try and get the result we want."
