British pair Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins moved into the third round of the Australian Open doubles this morning after outclassing Russian pair Alex Bogomolov Jr and Igor Kunitsyn.

Fleming, who is from Linlithgow, and his London-born partner completed a near-faultless first set in 21 minutes and went on to win 6-0, 6-3.

"It was a strong performance and a great victory," said the Scot. "We've done well in Grand Slams and have high expectations but it's still nice to be in third round."

The pair next play top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan, who beat Australians Lleyton Hewitt and Peter Luczak 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

Meanwhile, Jamie Murray and Peng Shuai lost 3-6, 7-5, 10-5 to Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Abigail Spears in the mixed doubles first round.

Jamie's more famous brother Andy is still alive and kicking, though, and knows he will come up against one of the tour's funnymen tomorrow in the men's draw.

Murray faces a Frenchman for the second consecutive match when he takes on world No.46 Michael Llodra in round three and said: "He's strange, but nice. He's a funny guy, but it will be serious on court."

Two of the men likely to stand in the way of Murray's route to glory, Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal, enjoyed a smooth passage through to the second week this morning.

Federer defeated 6ft 10in Croatian Ivo Karlovic 7-6 (8/6), 7-5, 6-3, while Nadal hammered Lukas Lacko 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.

In the women's singles, world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki beat Monica Niculescu 6-2, 6-2 while Victoria Azarenka Mona Barthel 6-2, 6-4.
