St Mirren boss Gus MacPherson has quashed fears that dressing room unrest following the club’s bonus row could derail their efforts of bringing success to the Paisley side.

The club’s senior players met directors because they are believed to have been unhappy with the cash bonus received for reaching the Co-operative Insurance Final – the club’s first major final for 23 years.

It’s understood the players received a £1,000 bonus for beating Hearts in the semi-final – £600 less than they picked up for beating Motherwell in the previous round.

But MacPherson has backed his players to keep their focus as discussions go on.

“Sometimes these things go on at clubs, but it’s far from being a war between the players and the directors,” he said.

“The players had a meeting with the directors two weeks ago and a lot of stuff was explained to them.

“So it’s not affected the players as since then, they’ve got to the final, played well at Hibs and competed with Rangers in the Scottish Cup. I hope it will be resolved and we’ll move on.”

A statement on the club’s website said: “The board of directors met a couple of weeks ago with representatives of the players and the manager.

“At this point, the bonuses for the Co-operative Insurance Cup semi-final and Scottish Cup fifth-round matches were discussed.

“To date, the board have had no request for any further meetings with the players.”
