GREGOR TOWNSEND today demanded his Glasgow side back up their outstanding victory over RaboDirect PRO12 champions the Osprey's with a first home win when they take on Connacht on Friday night.

A brace of tries from DTH van der Merwe provided the platform for a hugely impressive 28-10 victory over the big budget Welsh side as Warriors claimed their first triumph of the season after three games.

Toony has told his troops it is crucial they now cash in on their stand out success at the Liberty with a historic first home victory at their new Scotstoun Stadium against the always tough Connacht.

The Warriors head coach said: "I thought that the effort I got from the whole team at the Liberty was outstanding. For me the mark of a good team is how it reacts to adversity and the response we got from the side to the opening defeats was immense.

"To come to the home of the PRO12 champions and notch three tries was outstanding, but now it is absolutely vital we back this victory up with a home win over Connacht on Friday.

"With Connacht then Zebre coming to Scotstoun over the next fortnight we have the chance to really make home advantage count and we have given ourselves the perfect platform into these games with the Ospreys win."

Flanker Chris Fusaro also went over the try line, and outside-half Duncan Weir added a further 10 points. The Ospreys' only try meanwhile, came from lock Ian Evans, as Warriors rampaged to their second straight win at the Liberty.

However some of the gloss was taken off the Ospreys win with the news that Scotland scrum-half Chris Cusiter has a shoulder injury and will undergo a scan to assess the level of damage with a visit to a specialist already lined up for Thursday. Cusiter will definitely miss the upcoming home double header though, and Toony admitted he was gutted for the number nine.

Cusiter will now be added to a growing casualty list that includes Rob Harley, Pat MacArthur, Ed Kalman and Jon Welsh.

Townsend revealed: "Chris' shoulder injury is a concern and we will not know the full extent of the injury until later in the week. It is really frustrating for Chris because he has started the season superbly, but young Henry Pyrgos did well when he came on and I have no fears over him running the show at nine in Chris' absence."

Warriors have at least been boosted by the timely news that Fijian international scrum-half Nikola Matawalu has had his visa application cleared and will arrive in Glasgow later this week with an outside chance of being involved against Zebre a week on Friday.

Also expected to check-in at Scotstoun this week is South African signing Josh Strauss. The 25 year old has signed on a three year deal with Warriors.
