DUNCAN WEIR has challenged himself to play a key role in creating history with Glasgow Warriors.

Sean Lineen's men are back in Heineken Cup action this weekend when they host European champions Leinster in Sunday's 12.45pm kick-off.

Second-placed Warriors trail the Pool Three leaders side by six points but victory against Joe Schmidt's side, followed with a success at Bath on Sunday week, would give them a great chance of becoming the first Glasgow side to make the last eight of European rugby's showpiece event.

With Scotland stand-off Ruaridh Jackson almost certainly out with a hamstring injury, the 20-year-old will be handed the No.10 jersey and is relishing the prospect.

Duncy said: "We are back in to start the build-up today and it was great to go into training fresh and hungry.

"I was pretty sore after the double-header with Edinburgh and I have to be honest and say that Sean [Lineen] was completely right to rest me for Scarlets.

"The Leinster game is the key one of our Pool Three campaign. We have got to run out at Firhill and get right in among them from the start. We have to win this one and if we do that, it would set us up perfectly for the final tie at Bath.

"We know how hard it is going to be to get the better of Leinster, but the lift we would get from doing so, going into the Bath game, would be massive.

"We want to be the first Glasgow side to make the last eight of the Heineken Cup and we know what is required to achieve that.

"We have to win our last two games ... there is no buts about it."

Weir has had an outstanding season and has already amassed 145 points in the Pro12 to lead the scorers' table.

His new-found maturity and improving game management also earned him a call-up to Andy Robinson's Scotland training squad for the 2012 Six Nations campaign.

Weir said: "It is a massive honour and when we go into camp, it will be up to me to train as hard as I can and show that I can do a job for Scotland.

"To get that opportunity at this early stage in my career is fantastic and that has been all down to the big games I have played with Glasgow already this season.

"Right now we seem to be at a stage in the campaign where every game we play is bigger than the last one. The buzz around the squad is tremendous.

"With a big crowd roaring us on we believe we can beat anyone at Firhill. Hopefully we can prove that against the European champions on Sunday."
