World number six Ryan Day will be unable to go one better than last year after he went down to a 5-3 defeat by Jamie Cope at the snooker Grand Prix in Glasgow.
Cope went 2-0 ahead before Day - last year's losing finalist - won three consecutive frames and appeared to have the momentum.
And in the third frame, he moved ominously through the table with a 147 clearly in his sights.
Having already cleared 134, the Welshman was just unable to pot the pink, but he had reduced the arrears to 2-1.
However, 24-year-old Cope won the next three frames to claim victory as Day joined Mark Selby and Marco Fu in crashing out of the tournament.
Elsewhere, Neil Robertson won four frames on the spin to inflict a 5-3 defeat on Gerard Greene.
BASKETBALL: The Glasgow Rocks slipped from joint third to eighth place in the BBL rankings after a topsy-turvy weekend.
The Kelvin-Hall based Rocks crashed into the top three after their 96-78 victory over Marshall MK Lions on Friday night. But all the good work was undone with Saturday's narrow 93-91 defeat to the The Worthing Thunder.
SPEEDWAY: Glasgow Tigers' miserable season continued when inter-city Rivals Edinburgh ran out 60-30 winners in the Scottish Cup first leg encounter at Armadale, Birmingham top man Jason Lyons guested in place of the injured Shane Parker, but could only manage a paltry three-point return.
Both sides will reconvene to complete the Scottish Cup tie this Sunday at Ashfield (start time 4pm) in Tigers' last fixtures of the season.
BADMINTON: Bothwell's kirsty Gilmour successfully defended her girls singles title at the Scotland Under-19 Championships in Edinburgh.
