AROUND 800 primary pupils put their best foot forward in a massive country dance festival in Glasgow.
They travelled to the Kelvin Hall from all over the city and many donned a touch of tartan to help them get in the mood.
The aim of the day-long event was to get children active and encourage them to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Youngsters from 39 schools took part in the festival, which was started in rousing style by the Strathclyde Police Pipe Band.
All the kids had previously been taught a selection of popular Scottish country dances, including the Dashing White Sergeant.
Gordon Matheson, city council executive member for education, said: "It was a fantastic, joyous event and the children took part with great gusto.
"To look across the hall and see hundreds of happy pupils taking part in country dancing was a joy to behold, especially as they were helping their fitness at the same time.
"They had obviously been practising in their schools. I have been to gala balls with adults who would be put to shame by the skills shown by our children."
Mr Matheson said he hopes the festival will become an annual event for the city.
