HUNDREDS of children from primary schools across Glasgow brought a sea of yellow to Bellahouston Park as they took part in a 5k walk in aid of the city's Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice.
yesterday more than 1500 P5 to P7 pupils donned bright yellow baseball caps to complete the route around the park.
The hospice's seventh annual Go Yellow fundraiser, which aims to promote the Glasgow charity's work and range of services, proved to be another fun-filled day in the sun, with more than 30 Glasgow schools involved.
Following the walk, the children tried a range of outdoor activities, from football, rugby and hockey to cheerleading, gymnastics, nature trails and an inflatable assault course.
The hospice's community fundraiser, Joyce Ross, said: "Go Yellow gets bigger and better each year and thanks to the continued support from many of Glasgow's schools this year's event has been another resounding success."
She added: "It's a great way to encourage children to get involved in raising money for good causes and it gives them the opportunity to forge friendships with kids from other schools. We had 33 schools involved this year and already we can't wait to see everyone again next year."
Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, and Strathclyde Police were also on hand to speak to the youngsters at the event, which is sponsored by Robert Wiseman Dairies and supported by Glasgow City Council.
One of the highlights of the day was a mascot race between the hospice's Harvey the Heart and those from a number of SPL football clubs and other organisations, including Rangers' Broxi Bear, Celtic's Hoopy the Huddle Hound and Glasgow City Council's T-Rex road safety mascot.
Sandy Wilkie, marketing director at Robert Wiseman Dairies, said: "We are all about health, fitness and vitality so there is a natural fit with this wonderful event. It's been a fantastic day; the children have had lots of fun and have helped to support and raise awareness of the hospice."
All funds raised from the Go Yellow event will go towards the continued provision of free care to terminally ill patients, most of whom have cancer, as well as supporting their families and carers. Annual running costs for the hospice reach £3.8million each year and of this figure, £2.4m must come from fundraising and voluntary donations.
