THE end of the school year saw tens of thousands of sun-ready Scots make the annual exodus from Glasgow, Prestick, Aberdeen and Edinburgh airports.

Glasgow Airport alone saw more than 110,000 sun-seekers and jet-setters pass through the terminals over the weekend.

It began when 32,000 travellers went through the airport on Friday on one of the busiest days of the year.

And more Scots will jet off to America, Europe and Asia over the coming weeks in search of the perfect holiday.

With events across the country enticing Scots to stick around - including the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond, the Open Championship at Turnberry, T in the Park, Homecoming Scotland and Edinburgh Festival events - many already have their holidays booked, and will be on the first plane straight out of town.

Some are on the brink of booking their break, and some are still deciding on their dream destination.

A mass influx of visitors to Scotland is also expected this summer, perhaps only encouraging us locals to take off towards foreign shores.

The majority of travellers will be heading away on direct flights to Palma, Malaga, Dalaman, Alicante, Dubai, Tenerife and Orlando.

But not all the travellers heading abroad are in search of sunny beaches, cool cocktails and exotic food.

Many go in search of a little culture, a little adventure, some love or romance or perhaps that once in a lifetime trip down a jungle river, up a mountain peak.

The Evening Times took to the streets of Glasgow, where many shoppers were dreaming of swapping the hustle and bustle of the city centre for a date with the beach, or a chance for adventure.

A simple question was posed to the holiday dreamers: 'If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?'

From Los Angeles to South America, you all want to fly off
LUKE SAMPSON, 18, film production worker, Hamilton:
"Los Angeles. It would be for my career in film and television, and that's the heart - the place to be."
KIRSTEN JENSON, 22, musician, City Centre:
"I'd like to trek in the Andes in South America, as it would be quite different. Maybe with a close group of friends."
ANNA KARPINSKA, 23, student, West End:
"Turkey, as I hear they've got really hot men there. The weather would be great, I'd just lie on the beach, get some sun and sit by the sea..."
GILLIAN PARK, 20, student, City Centre:
"San Francisco. I'm turning 21 soon, so I'd like to go over and experience America as a culture. I've always just wanted to go."
CLARE TUCKER, 28, student, West End:
"Vienna. I've always wanted to go there because of the culture. I'll get there someday, somehow..."
FLORIAN NONNENMACHER, 30, student, City Centre:
"Somewhere in the South Seas. To sit on the beach, to go far a swim, snorkle with the sharks. Maybe Florida."
SIMON MORGAN, 21, student, City Centre:
"The south of France. I like the food, the culture and the language."
ELEANOR STEWART, 22, works in advertising, South Side:
"Japan. I think it's a nice place, and it would just be so different, such a culture shock."
