CLUBBING - Fatboy Slim tops busy weekend at Arches

LAST weekend was all about the Oscars and Argo: this weekend it's all about The Arches as the venue hosts Pressure, the 10th annual Hard Dance Awards and Fatboy Slim, all in the space of 72 hours.

Tomorrow, Slam welcome techno heads Len Faki and Nina Kraviz to their monthly night Pressure.

The former is a world-renowned German master, the latter a Siberian siren who's currently one of the most sought-after DJs around.

A mere 16 hours after the last stragglers have been kicked out, the Hard Dance Awards kick off.

This is the first year the event has been staged in Scotland, having previously been held at venues as glittering as The Matrixx in Nijmegen and Coalville's Emporium.

A galaxy of hard dance stars, including Wildstylez, Kutski and Evil Activities are performing, meaning that dishing out the gongs will take a back seat to the night's true purpose: getting smashed.

No rest on Sunday either, as Norman Cook – everyone's slightly-embarrassing-but-still-residually-cool Uncle – takes to The Arches' stage as his alter ego Fatboy Slim.

With a roll-call of hits longer than the Olympic closing ceremony (Right Here Right Now, The Rockafeller Skank, Praise You, Weapon of Choice ) this promises to be an amazing end to one of the most memorable weekends of the year.

l Pressure feat Len Faki, tomorrow, The Arches, 11pm-5am, £18

l 10th Annual Hard Dance Awards, Saturday, The Arches, 9.30pm-5am, £25

l Fatboy Slim, Sunday, The Arches, 9.30pm-2.30am. Sold out

THE venerable Melting Pot celebrates its 12th birthday on Saturday in the manner to which it is accustomed, inviting its many admirers down into The Admiral's cosy basement for a sweaty, intimate night of disco loving.

Fantastic Frenchman Francois K leads the line, his cosmic take on disco and house a fitting way to look back on 11 years of audiophile excellence.

Rinse cleans up

RINSE FM's tours are becoming a highly-anticipated fixture on the clubbing calendar.

This time, they're bringing Hessle Audio's Ben UFO and his carefully diverse electronica to the Sub Club for an all-night marathon set.

His recent Fabriclive 67 mix went down a storm: it's not an easy listen by any means, but it should enthral anyone interested in club music and its many forms.

lRinse Winter Tour 2013, tomorrow, Sub Club, 11pm-3am, £10

Gang Starr legend

ONE of the most influential early hip-hop groups, Gang Starr pioneered the jazzy New York hardcore sound that led to gangster rap and pretty much every good hip-hop artist ever since.

This is a rare chance to catch their musical engine room, DJ Premier, in the flesh.

A producer for Biggie, Nas and Snoop Dogg (or Snoop Lion or whatever) among others, Premier is joined by contemporary hip-hop producer Statik Selektah and locals Profisee and Bunty.

l DJ Premier, Tuesday, O2 ABC, 7pm-late, £15.75
