The power of TV and internet on music nowadays is quite frightening, especially when you see Jedward shoot straight in at No.2 last Sunday on the download release of their single Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby) with Vanilla Ice.
It would be understandable if it was a decent song, but it’s not really. This is where the power of X Factor comes in to help the boys, with all that TV exposure helping them to take the nation by storm!
It seems to be a love/hate relationship with the Irish duo. I have yet to meet someone who thinks they’re just okay. It’s either “OMG I love Jedward!” or “They’re absolutely painful”.
I personally am not the biggest fan and have made this known, but despite what I think, fair play to them for getting a hit that will no doubt rocket to No.1 this weekend.
Can they sing? Can they dance? Can they make sense? All debatable.
The boys joined me on my Clyde 1 show on Monday and it was all rather random! Their single entered the download chart the day before, but John and Edward thought it was coming out on Tuesday.
“It’s so cool. We recorded the video and the song is out on Tuesday, I think, is it Tuesday?” I reassured them that the song can be downloaded now.
“Yeah, you can download it right now and it’s so cool because in one day it got up to number 2 but everyone else last week had seven days of sales and we almost got to number 1 in 12 hours!”
Nothing like modesty, boys! Inside their physical single you will get a lovely Jedward poster that you can use to cover a hole in bedroom wall. They look almost like superheroes in the picture, so I asked if they though they could they be superheroes one day.
“Could we? Hmm…our two favourite superheroes are Batman & Robin”.
What about those mighty special hairdos. How long do they take to perfect?
“It’s so weird because we can do it in five seconds. You just get a load of stuff and put it in your hair.”
Their hair is pretty tall, but how big though?
“It’s actually really tall, so tall that if you got it straightened it…..emmmm…..”
Ok then boys, exact answer there!
They have had some advice on their hair “Someone said we should get our hair cut and sell the strands of it on eBay.”
Yet again boys, modesty! You NEED to check out the full interview at www.clyde1.com/indemand
