CLUBS: Zombielicious!

Never mind roasting your chestnuts on an open fire or filling your stockings full of goodies, check the line-up this festive season for the gleaming disco ball of a fun affair that is the Death Disco XXXmas Party this Saturday.

Zombie Nation is the techno electro project of fun loving German DJ and producer Splank! He’s well known for donning crazy wigs onstage as well as taking sounds from fans and turning them into tracks (The Mind of Many).

He calls this ‘internet democratic music’. His first release was the chart-smashing Kernkraft 400 which was based on part of David Whittaker’s music from the Commodore 64 game Lazy Jones. The song was remixed and re-issued several times, reaching top ten positions in the UK and European charts. He released the feverishly good album Zombielicious in 2009 and has just created a fabulous five minute minimix for Annie Mac’s mash-up. This is his second appearance at DD following his electrifying live set back in April 2009. Electro house DJ and producer extraordinaire Burns has been answering the pleas from some of the world’s biggest bands (Black Eyed Peas, Wolfmother, Ladyhawke, and Frankmusik to name but a few) to remix their tracks. He’s Calvin Harris’s tour DJ of choice and everyone from The Times to dance bibles Mixmag and DJ Magazine and even NME have been singing his praises. His EP So Many Nights was released earlier this year along with his first mix CD European Sex Music. Fellow Scot Unicorn Kid’s first EP Lion Hat was released in January 2009 on his own label Euphonios. This and follow-up Wee Monsters/Animal City received rave reviews and national radio play. In April 2010, the his single Dream Catcher was released on Ministry of Sound as a free download which was followed by Wild Life last month. An album (with vocals!) is pencilled in for 2011. He has remixed the Pet Shop Boys’ Did you See Me Coming? as well as the Gorillaz track Superfast Jellyfish. He comes to the DD XXXmas party fresh from support slots with The Pet Shop Boys, Calvin Harris and Hadouken, a headline UK tour and various festival appearances. Death Disco XXXmas Party @ The Arches, Saturday, 11pm -- 3am, £14 Swiss bliss Alternative Saturday night entertainment can be found at The The Admiral, where Tronicsole welcomes one of the Mountain People, Rozzo. The Switzerland-based DJ was part of Mountain People and as a solo artist, is one of the finest producers of the deep and techy end of house. His trademark shuffly feel has moved dancefloors around the world both in his own productions and remixes for the likes of Oslo, Freerange, Moodmusic, Cynosure, NRK and forthcoming on Tronicsole. As ever Rozzo will be joined by residents HiRO and Steven Coyle. There’s a late license til 4am pending too! Tronicsole @ The Admiral, Saturday, 11pm-4am (TBC). £10/£9 AudioVisual fun AV at Glasgow Art School’s Vic Bar has the combined vision of presenting some of the best names in underground electronic music from home and abroad as well integrating the energy and depth of electronic music with live visuals and digital projections -- turning the entire night into a live, real-time multimedia performance that creates an unforgettable experience for their crowd. This month’s AV plays host to DJ/producer Colin McLaren and the eclectic, multi-faceted Simon Stokes (Darkroom Dubs, Rekluse, Minibus), an exciting rising star who has shared past billings with the likes of Slam, Mike Huckaby and Oxi. Simon will undoubtedly draw everyone to the dance floor as he moves between dark minimal tech and jazz-infused house. AV @ The Vic Bar, tomorrow, 11pm til late, £5
