Some major mental preparation is in order for me at the moment, because on Saturday morning, weather permitting, I will be doing a skydive (fingers crossed we get a torrential downpour and I can’t do it).
A few weeks ago NDubz appeared at our Breakfast Gig at the Hilton and, as well as playing live, Fazer, Tulisa and Dappy had something else in mind ... they wanted to get me back for something!
On my show I make all the guests take part in my Round of Randomness, which is basically a general knowledge quiz. NDubz have taken part a few times, and they wanted to turn the tables on me and challenge me to do something!
I do think a skydive from 10,000 feet is a bit extreme, but I stupidly accepted and it all happens on Saturday at the Strathallan sky dive centre (Skydive Strathallan) which is home to the world’s oldest skydive club, the Scottish Parachute Club, which marks its 60th anniversary this year.
If you’re free on Saturday morning, you’re more than welcome to come along for some support. Thankfully I’m doing a tandem skydive which means someone will be on my back pulling the parachute out.
I’m sure it’ll be one of those things that once I do it I’ll be such on an adrenaline rush I’ll want to go up again, but right now I feel completely the opposite.
The hardest part will be nudging myself off the edge of the plane and into the sky. And what if nerves get the better of me and I need the loo? Just cross everything for Saturday, please.
In a more relaxed environment, I caught up with Kelly and Xavier from Stereophonics last week in their Glasgow hotel ahead of the first night of their UK tour at the SECC.
Haven’t the guys been in Scotland quite a lot recently?
“Yeah, we’ve been up here quite a lot in the past few months and we’re going to be up here for T in the Park, so we’re constantly up here. I think I might buy a house,” said Kelly.
It must be like coming home when they play Glasgow.
“Well we’ve been coming here for over 10 years now. I’m confused when I come to Scotland because it’s always snowing and I always think Christmas is just round the corner and now it’s March,” said Kelly.
Stereophonics return in July for T in the Park, which Kelly says is always a highlight of the festival season.
“Rain or shine it’s always been an amazing crowd for us,” said Kelly. “We’re looking forward to it this year because we’re going to do it the same day as Eminem. “We try to pick as many bands that we’ve never got to see live before so we can get an opportunity to see them.”
Stereophonics will definitely be one of my highlights at T this year.
