The presenter, who has played a fairy in panto for the past three years, was still earning her wings as she conquered a fear of heights to top off the 55ft Christmas Tree.
It takes centre stage in the square, with a traditional decoration.
Cat admitted she was a little unsteady as she completed the final task before Any Dream Will So Star Craig Chalmers switches on the Christmas lights on Sunday.
Cat, who was lifted up by a cherry-picker, said she didn't dare look down at the crowd as she completed her task - with shaking hands.
At Sunday's switch-on, the sky will be lit up with a spectacular fireworks display from the roof of the City Chambers.
