THE new favourite to become the 12th Doctor Who is Hamlet actor Ben Whishaw.
He is William Hill's new favourite in the betting for Matt Smith's replacement, with odds cut from 12/1 to 8/1.
Others in the betting include, Steven Fry at 66/1, Benedict Cumberbatch at 25/1 and David Harewood at 12/1.
Rupert Adams, a spokesman for the bookmakers, said: "Ben Whishaw has been well backed with the majority of bets placed by female fans.
"It remains to be seen if it is in hope rather vain."
The possibility of a female Doctor is 8/1, while Russell Tovey and Rupert Grint are at 10/1.
