The 45-year-old made a private personal appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court on June 13, where he made no plea or declaration and was granted bail by sheriff John McCormack.

Mr Coulson was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Advocates, Richard Keen QC.

But, a contempt of court order was granted banning any media coverage of the short hearing.

The order was challenged by various media outlets and a further hearing took place at the court yesterday today.

After submissions made by Roddy Dunlop QC for the media and James Wolffe QC for Mr Coulson, sheriff McCormack lifted the order.

Mr Coulson was detained at his London home in May this year and driven more than 400 miles by officers from Police Scotland to Glasgow.

He was held at Govan police station where he was questioned and later charged.

Coulson became editor of the now defunct News International paper in 2003, before he resigned in 2007.

Mr Coulson is expected to appear at court at a later date.
