Paisley was a sea of black and white as fans headed to the town’s County Square after the match at Hampden this afternoon.
St Mirren captured the Scottish Communities League Cup after coming from behind to beat Hearts in one of the most dramatic finals witnessed at Hampden for many a year. The final score was 3-2 to St Mirren.
Renfrewshire’s Provost Anne Hall said: “I’d like to congratulate everyone at St Mirren and all their supporters for producing a wonderful day and a tremendous result. To win the trophy in such style with such a performance is exceptional. The club have overcome the odds to reach the final and they showed a great belief and determination to lift the trophy. In the final we saw the team and thousands of fans representing Paisley and Renfrewshire with pride. And it was a very proud day for me as Provost to welcome the team home to Paisley to take the acclaim of their own community. It was a fantastic day and I am sure that the club and the town will build on this success. This has been a game that the people of Paisley will always remember.”
