An independent commission chaired by Lord Nimmo Smith investigated allegations the club failed to correctly lodge all details of payments for players’ playing activities during the reign of former Ibrox chairman Sir David Murray.

Today the SPL revealed an outcome to the investigation will be announced at midday tomorrow.

It is alleged Rangers breached SPL and SFA rules by not declaring all payments made to players.

If Rangers are found guilty, they will be subject to one of 18 possible sanctions, including the removal of several SPL titles and Scottish Cup wins.

A statement from the SPL today, said: "The written decision of the Commission appointed in relation to RFC 2012 Plc (now in liquidation) and Rangers FC and chaired by Lord Nimmo Smith will be published on Thursday 28 February at 12 noon."

Lord Nimmo Smith, Nicholas Stewart QC and Charles Flint QC held a three-day hearing last month to gather evidence and consider what punishment, if any, should be handed down to the Ibrox club.

Despite the club being cleared of the misuse of Employee Benefit Trusts (EBT) by a First-Tier Tax Tribunal last year, the SPL have pressed ahead with their own investigation into the Gers’ financial activities between 2000 and 2011.

Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs have appealed the First-Tier Tax Tribunal’s decision.
