Six football fans from Russia have been banned from UK matches for at least 12 months.

The Spartak Moscow supporters were each given football banning orders at Glasgow Sheriff Court for fighting with rival Celtic fans before the Champions League match in Glasgow last week.

Alexey Fedorov and Alexsey Filatov were banned for 18 months for fighting with Celtic fans in the Gallowgate at the junction with Fielden Street.

Filatov, 36, also pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and Fedorov, 22, to assaulting a police officer.

Filatov, who is a lawyer, and co-accused Fedorov, a bank clerk, were due to be sentenced next month after previously pleading guilty but the court was told that it was at the behest of the Russian Embassy that the hearing was accelerated.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Sheriff Charles McFarlane QC sentenced the pair to 12 days in prison backdated to December 6, meaning they were freed yesterday.

In a separate case, four other men committed breach of the peace by fighting in Bain Street on Wednesday December 5 before the kick-off.

Evgeny Morozov, Vladamir Chiscyakov, Gorgy Morozov and Valery Grishko were banned from UK football matches for 12 months.

Joe Stewart, Football Liaison Prosecutor for the West of Scotland, said: “We will not tolerate violence or disorder at football matches or in other public places, whether the offenders are from Scotland or elsewhere.”
