YOUNG dancers in Glasgow had plenty of reasons to be cheerful as they showed off their skills to the professionals from an National Football League side from the United States.
Around 30 children from the Dance UK school gathered at the Community Central Halls in Maryhill yesterday to meet cheerleaders from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The group, who cheer on the NFL side, are touring the UK ahead of their side's October fixture against the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium.
The youngsters were ecstatic to finally meet their heroes after weeks of preparation and, led by the girls from Florida, were taken through warm-up and stretch exercises before trying out some cheerleading routines.
They were also given souvenir posters before having the chance to be photographed with the professionals.
Casey Crawford, six, and seven-year-old Rebecca Daly, both from Bishopbriggs, were delighted to be the first to meet one of America's most famous cheerleading squads.
Jacqui Wilson, head of Dance UK, said: "I think it's a wonderful opportunity for these kids, they've been very excited about it.
"They enjoy the classes every week and it's great experience for them. We encourage children to come along for fun and fitness.
"Events like this make it worthwhile all year. This is the first time we've hosted such an event."
Tiffany Jiminez, one of the cheerleaders, said: "I remember looking up to many cheerleaders when I was their age. This gives them the chance to meet their role models."
