A MAN was badly injured when he was mowed down by a car which had crashed into the back of his van in Glasgow.

Police are treating the incident in Wellfield Street, Springburn, at 2.40pm yesterday as attempted murder.

The 45-year-old was driving along Wellfield Street, at the junction with Atlas Street, when his Volkswagon van was hit in the rear by a light-blue Peugeot car, which may have been a 206 model.

The van driver got out to get the other driver's details - but the Peugeot was driven at him and knocked him down.

The victim was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where his condition is described as stable.

After the incident, the Peugeot - which was carrying two people - headed east along Wellfield Street and stopped.

The two suspects got out of the vehicle to possibly check for damage and then continued their escape.

There are no descriptions of the male suspects but they are both believed to be in their 20s.

Detective Constable Gary Cassidy, of Baird Street CID, said: "This incident was completely unprovoked and a man was badly injured.

"This area is often busy with motorists and pedestrians and I hope someone may have seen something.

"The Peugeot may have sustained damage to its front near side."
