A NEW attraction has been getting festive shoppers in a spin ... with almost 10,000 people enjoying the Renfrewshire Wheel since it opened this month.
The 132ft big wheel, the first of its kind in Scotland, offers a 13-minute journey in capsules with views towards Glasgow and down the Clyde estuary.
The wheel, beside Braehead Shopping Centre, was officially launched yesterday, with the attraction's operations manager Alan Purvis showing VIPs around.
It was named after its location as part of a deal between Renfrewshire council and owners World Tourist Attractions.
Among the first customers after the launch were Wilma Lafferty, from Paisley, and her daughter Holly, 8.
Wilma said: "It was excellent. I was a wee bit apprehensive at first but once I got on I was fine."
Holly said: "I really liked being able to see everything."
The wheel will stay here until June at least.
Rotating at a sedate 3mph, it also has two VIP pods' with blacked out windows and glass floor.
Renfrewshire's Provost Celia Lawson said of the attraction: "It was fabulous. I haven't got a head for heights but I thoroughly enjoyed it."
Council leader Derek Mackay said: "It's an iconic addition to our skyline."
The wheel is open 10am to 10pm on weekdays and closes at 8pm on Saturdays and 6pm Sundays. It costs £5 for adults and £3 for children.
The four-seater VIP pod costs £60 or £75 with a bottle of champagne.
A family ticket is £14 and there is disabled access.
