FROM Penny Lane and Karma Chameleon to Mysterious Girl, Retrofest cranked back the clock through more than 40 years of juke box favourites.

FROM Penny Lane and Karma Chameleon to Mysterious Girl, Retrofest cranked back the clock through more than 40 years of juke box favourites.

Around 10,000 people descended on Strathclyde Country Park, near Motherwell, for the kitsch pop extravaganza.

Culture Club's flamboyant frontman Boy George brought the curtain down on the three-day event, which featured performances from The Bangles, Kim Wilde, Bjorn Again, Bucks Fizz, 10cc, Bootleg Beatles, Midge Ure and The Christians.

Boy George performed a truncated set last night because the event was over-running, but still found time for hits such as It's A Miracle, Everything I Own, Church Of The Poison Mind and Do You Really Want To Hurt Me.

Seventies favourites Boney M got feet moving with Daddy Cool, Rasputin and Rivers Of Babylon, while Howard Jones upped the electronic ante on Like To Get To Know You Well and What Is Love?

A sprightly, pogo-ing Paul Young dedicated his set to British Airways for losing his luggage, with his band resorting to borrowing instruments from the newly-reformed Kajagoogoo.

In a coup for Retrofest, the Too Shy and Never Ending Story combo led by Limahl performed their first gig in 25 years. Suffice to say the haircuts remain just as wacky.

Model Katie Price, better known as Jordan, and daughter Princess Tiaamii were in the wings on Saturday afternoon to watch Peter Andre perform on the main stage, which was headlined by American girl band The Bangles.

Festival-goers enjoyed a quirky array of arena attractions; a silent disco that was more sing-a-long than silent, a retro cinema, a make-shift beach of 60 tonnes of sand and a small Tomorrow's World Stage for emerging talent.

Organisers Bradley Snelling and Malcolm Cannon confirmed the event would return next year, saying: "It has been amazing to see so many people here and enjoying themselves.

"We hope to get even more favourites for Retrofest 2009."
