THEY'RE the insistent little TV jingles that, once heard, are difficult to get out of your mind. How many of us can see the words "A finger of fudge is just enough" without hearing it sung in a child's voice the way it was on the TV ad?

A new list of the most popular advertising jingles includes some of the most memorable - and also reminds us of how addicted we are to chocolate and sweets.

The survey, compiled by insurance company Direct Line to mark the launch of its new advertising campaign, is headed by the R Whites' secret lemonade drinker ad.

It's followed by Coca-Cola's sugary I'd like to teach the world to sing', Cadbury Flake's Crumbliest, flakiest chocolate' and Everyone's a fruit and nut case', in which Frank Muir encouraged a nation to munch Cadbury's Fruit and Nut bars.

Others in the top 10 include Just one Cornetto' (Wall's Cornetto), Um Bongo, they drink it in the Congo' (Um Bongo); A Mars a day helps you work, rest and play' (Mars Bar), If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit' (Club Biscuits), A finger of fudge' (Cadbury's Fudge) and For mash, get Smash' (Cadbury's Smash Mash).

The list shows the importance that Cadbury's places on memorable jingles.

There are other famous ad jingles that didn't make the list, some of them with a Scottish lilt.

Who can forget Lee's of Scotland's Lees, Lees, more if you please' or even our own Life and soul of Glasgow' adverts?

Direct Line spokesperson Frances Browning said: "With Britain's obesity crisis growing at the same speed as our waistlines, it is interesting to see soft-drinks and chocolates feature in nine out of the top 10 most popular jingles."

What, we asked, is your favourite advertising jingle?

Drumming gorillas and singing Sheilas are stuck in your brains
IAN McNABB, 26, sales manager, Knightswood:
I don't really watch that much TV, but I'd have to say the Irn-Bru Snowman advert.
BERT KANE, 79, retired, Carluke:
The Cornetto ad - I went to Venice years ago and we were all singing it when we went on the gondolas with the guide!
ELAINE DUNCAN, 17, student, Pollokshields:
I'd have to say Sheila's Wheels - it has a really catchy tune.
EVE WILLIAMSON, 18, student, Clarkston:
I really like the music in the new Cadbury's adverts - the ones with the gorilla and the racing cars.
LAUREN FLEMING, 18, student, Shawlands:
The Lloyds TSB advert is really catchy and the wee characters in it are cute!
CAROLE RENNIE, 54, blood transfusion worker, Dennistoun:
Sheila's Wheels - the tune is catchy and you always sing along with it.
ANDREW ROBERTSON, 45, carpet fitter, East Kilbride:
I'd probably go for the old Levi's ads - especially the one with the Steve Miller Band.
JORDAN FALCONER, 26, fireman, Greenock:
The iTunes ads are good - they always feature new songs.
