AN ambitious plan to extend Glasgow's Subway into the East End has won overwhelming support from Evening Times readers.
Almost 700 people - one of our largest responses to date - answered our online poll asking whether they backed the proposals for the Clockwork Orange, revealed on Wednesday.
A massive 93.5% were in favour of the £2.3billion expansion which could see seven stations added.
Today Strathclyde Partnership for Transport is expected to call for a report detailing costs and the route of the extension.
SPT chairman Alistair Watson said he was delighted at the huge support for the plan.
He added: "That is ringing endorsement from the people who use the Subway and the poll shows we are responding to what the public wants."
Readers also bombarded our comments board with their views on the multi-billion pound proposal.
One said: "I'm over the moon. An overhaul of the Subway system is long overdue and in my opinion, considering the years of neglect the Subway has faced, £2.6billion is very reasonable."
A route extension could result in a new circle linked to the existing one at Bridge Street, St Enoch and Buchanan Street.
New Subway stations are being considered for St Mungo's, Onslow, Duke Street, Celtic Park, Dalmarnock, Newhall and Gorbals.
SPT is also today likely to back a £270million modernisation plan for the 111-year-old system with new trains, improved stations and more park-and-ride spaces.
